India: Mobile Clinics Bring Health Care to Women and Children

Villagers from three poor fishing communities along the Bay of Bengal, on India's east coast, received check-ups and medicine at free clinics this weekend. The sudden change from summer’s heat to the rainy monsoon season has created ripe conditions for the spread of viral infections. Mothers with their children and older villagers lined up to be seen by a physician. Nearly 400 patients were served this weekend.

A New Pecking Order at Bright Hope School

The laying hens have arrived! Five hundred total. As opposed to chicks, more mature (several months old) hens were purchased for Ethiopia's Bright Hope School to help increase survivability during transport to their new home. It is expected that the chickens will start producing eggs by late September or early October. Laying cages along with the watering system have been installed in the egg laying room of the hatchery.

Surgery Gives Chinese Boy Complete Lip

Because of anemic blood, he had to wait many months more than his two orphan mates to get his double cleft lip repaired. The 17-month-old will eventually need a cleft palate surgery as well.
